so let me ask if anybody has mx5000 what are the pros and cons is this a real good tractor or what.these dealers seem to not push them instead they push towards the grand L .I think I would lean towards utility/ag I have more room as I am 6feet2" and 230 lbs.,I could also get m4900 to for less than the price of the 5030 grand L.so I guess I am asking is the grand L better than the m series tractors thanks

The M-series are "mid-size" tractors. The Grand-L series are premium-featured compacts. There is some overlap in horsepower, but in general the M-series are based on a larger "chassis". My understanding is the MX5000 is a "value" M-series model for someone looking for a larger machine without having to pay for all the frills. ....

On the Grand L caomparing it to the MX you are comparing two different types of tractors. The standard features will seperate them. The M-series is a full option larger frame tractor but it still doesn't offer the hydro but in most farm situations it isn't needed. ....

thanks for the info jarndt and art ,I thought the same thing, but these dealers I spoke to do not think much about the mx5000, I told them all I want is to replace my old tractor with the same size but add on 4x4 and independent pto,all they want to do is steer me away from the mx5000.they said the shuttle shift is not a true shuttle and you can not shift on the go to easy with the main tranny , is this true thanks kurt ....

I have an MX5000. You must bring the tractor to a full stop while shifting from 1 to 2, however you do not need to stop while shifting from 2 to 3 or 3 to 4. This holds true for the Low and the High range. I've heard the shuttle referred to as an in-line mechanical shuttle. On the range lever Low and Reverse are in line , so it is easy to move between forward and reverse. The reverse gear is slightly faster than Low. I believe you are still supposed to come to a complete stop while moving between Low and Reverse. To me it is still very easy to perform loader work. One tractor that I looked at was the JD 5105. the 5105 had less HP and was not synchronized in any of the gears but did have a synchronized shuttle. Telescoping links on the 3pt hitch were standard on the Kubota but were an option on the JD. It was also at least a couple grand more than the MX5000. I have been very pleased with the MX5000. I have the 852 loader, a Woods 720 BrushBull, a 6ft blade, a 6ft. disk harrow and a 6ft. chain harrow. There are lots of good tractors out there with lots of different features. The hard thing is to sort out what you "need", what you "want", and what you can live with.
